Amine Sidhoum is one of the few lawyers in Algeria prepared to represent individuals whose human rights have been violated by the state authorities. He is facing criminal defamation charges for which he potentially faces up to two years' imprisonment if convicted, and heavy fines of up to $USD 3,745. His trial was set to begin on 25 November 2007 but has now been postponed until 30 March.
