MOD: SETTLEMENT FOR PORTON DOWN VETERANS

The Ministry of Defence and the solicitors for a group of Porton Down veterans, have reached a settlement with respect to participation in trials that took place during the Cold War.

The trials were designed originally to demonstrate the deterrent capabilities in times of a threat from the use of chemical weapons. The MoD is to settle without admission of liability and pay a sum of £3 million. It also apologised to the group of veterans.
