Nuclear power station operators will bear the cost of managing nuclear waste and decommissioning, the government announced yesterday.
Business secretary John Hutton has published draft guidance on how energy firms planning to build nuclear power stations will pay for decommissioning costs.
The Energy Bill, currently going through Parliament will require companies to demonstrate how they will decommission nuclear waste and the funds they set aside. This follows the Government's announcement in January that it will support the development of new power stations in line with Britain's energy requirement.
