David Miliband, the foreign secretary today welcomed three key pieces of legislation recently approved by Iraq's new parliament:
1. Confirmation of the 2008 budget, which will record resources for services and reconstruction.
2. The Amnesty Law lays the foundation for greater Sunni reintegration in Iraqi politics.
3. The Provincial Powers Law bringing Iraq closer to a new round of provincial elections.
David Milliband said "There is now a clear desire on the part of Iraq's political leaders to reach out to each other in a spirit of compromise, and use the space created by the improved security environment to make real progress on reconciliation."
