ECHR RULES THAT TUNISIAN MAN SHOULD NOT BE DEPORTED TO FACE POSSIBLE TORTURE

The European Court of Human Rights re-affirmed its ruling to not send Nassim Saadi to Tunisia where he may face torture of execution after the Italian authorities and the UK Government tried to appeal for his deportation under the "Pisanu Law", a law adopted in 2005 as a emergency measure to combat terrorism, with the Italian and UK Government claiming that he posed a security risk to Italy.

The ECHR came to it's decision following reports from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch which they found provided "substantial grounds" for believing Mr Saadi would be at real risk of torture or other ill-treatment if he were deported. The reports from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, were deemed credible, consistent and corroborated by numerous other sources.
