Russian Pilot found Guilty on US Drug Charge

After two and a half days of deliberations, a jury in New York has found Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko guilty of drug trafficking. The New York Federal Court convicted Yaroshenko and another defendant of conspiring to import cocaine into the US in a case that touched on four continents and left the Federation of Russia crying foul play.

Yaroshenko was arrested last year in Liberia along with other defendants from Colombia, Nigeria and Ghana, and transferred within days to US custody and brought to the Southern District of New York to be tried.

The indictment stated Yaroshenko, 41, was an air transport export who moved thousand kilograms of cocaine throughout South America, Africa and Europe. He and the other defendants participated in a series of face-to-face meeting and phone conversations with cooperating Liberian officials as part of an undercover sting orchestrated by the Drug Enforcement Agency in connection with at least three different shipments of cocaine that they were trying to transport through Liberia from Venezuela and Panama.
