Bullying

The boy you punched in the hall today. Committed suicide a few minutes ago. That girl you called a slut in class today. She's a virgin. The boy you called lame. He has to work every night to support his family. That girl you pushed down the other day. She's already being abused at home. That girl you called fat. She's starving herself. The old man you made fun of cause of the ugly scars. He fought for our country. The boy you made fun of for crying. His mother is dying. You think you know them. Guess what? You don't!

This is awesome. Thank you!

I have two daughters, who I don't think have been bullied or are bullies, but it is a fine line.

I was bullied in primary school, and then in high school I was handed a perfect opportunity to intervene in a horrible bullying incident and I chose to walk away. A total coward. I wish I had had messages like this.

Thanks for writing this.

Thank you for your post and comments - this was actually something I've seen posted on Face book and thought I'd repost - it's a short and poignant verse. Sorry to hear of your experience in your formative years - I know, because I've also experienced it. I can also understand regretting not intervening when you spot bullying (an argument on the street, or at work situation or perhaps a domestic) and though I'd intervene even risking my own safety I understand it's not always feasible or one has to do so carefully as to not aggravate a situation - making it possibly worse than it is. Intervening is a split second thing - however it has to be done carefully where no possible worse comeback exists for the victim or intervener!
